[ARCHIVED] TWW Mails Lead Service Replacement Confirmations to Thousands of Customers

TWW Mails Lead Service Replacement Confirmations to Thousands of Customers

Trenton, N.J. — Nearly 4,000 customers who signed up for the Trenton Water Works $150-million Lead Service Line Replacement Program (LSLRP) will receive a postcard in the mail this week confirming their registration.

"TWW’s two LSLRP contractors are preparing for shovels in the ground in Trenton, Hamilton, Ewing and Lawrence," said Michael Walker, Chief of Communications and Community Relations at Trenton Water Works, which is operated by the city’s Department of Water and Sewer. "Mayor Reed Gusciora launched the LSLRP on January 9, 2020, and we are moving forward as planned.”

Representatives from TWW’s two LSLRP contractors—South State, Inc. and Spiniello Co.—are contacting customers who have already signed up for Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the program, making phone calls and leaving notifications on doors to remind customers that they must make an appointment to verify pipe materials, determine the scope of work, and schedule the lead-service replacements. This is the pre-construction phase of the program.

TWW is committed to removing all lead services from its system. In Phase 1 of the LSLRP, TWW will replace 3,800 lead service lines during 2020. If a customer signed up for the LSLRP before November 15, 2019, the replacement will take place in Phase 1 or Phase 2, beginning in 2020 and lasting through 2021. If a customer signed up after November 15, 2019, TWW will schedule the replacement for a future phase of the program.

Customers can direct their questions regarding TWW’s LSLRP to (609) 989-3600.

"We have circulated two post cards that LSLRP registrants should keep an eye out for," added Walker. "The first has the contractor’s phone number for customers to make an appointment, and the other confirms that TWW received their online registration or hardcopy application at our Cortland Street operations center. If you signed up multiple residential properties, you will receive confirmation postcards for each one."

TWW has held five H2Open Forums in recent weeks to inform residents about the status of the LSLRP and to answer questions about this program, as well as TWW’s operations.

Trenton Water Works is among the largest publicly owned, urban water utilities in the United States. It supplies an average of 27 million gallons of Delaware River-sourced drinking water per day to 63,000 metered customers. It services more than 200,000 people in Trenton, parts of Hamilton Township, Ewing Township, Lawrence Township and Hopewell Township in Mercer County, New Jersey. Established more than 200 years ago, TWW operates a 60-million-gallon water-filtration plant and water-distribution system that includes a 100-million-gallon reservoir. TWW’s system has 683 miles of water mains varying in size from 4 to 48 inches in diameter, three pump stations, and six interconnections between TWW and other water suppliers.
