1. What is recycling?

It is simple. Recycling means using again. Beginning with a simple lifestyle change, you can make a difference by tossing your recyclables into a different container.

2. Why should I recycle?

It is easy and aids in preserving the environment.

3. Why not recycle everything?

Not everything can be recycled. Items such as oily rags, paper mixed with food residue, disposable diapers, aerosol cans and many plastics are not likely to find a buyer. These items will contaminate recyclable goods.

4. How do I know what items can be recycled?

Separate reusable materials-such as glass bottles, aluminum cans, tin cans and plastics from ordinary refuse. You then place materials in special containers or bag them and place them at your curb for collection and processing.

5. How do I dispose of leaves and grass clippings from my property?

Leaves are picked up the day after your regular garbage day from November 7 to December 5, 2011. Leaves should be placed on the curb in open bags. There is a 20 bag limit and nothing else can be mixed with them. For grass clippings the City follows a policy of Clip and Leave, which means when you cut your grass, you leave it to be absorbed back into the soil. 7. How do I dispose of large household items such as appliances or old furniture?

Call the Sanitation Office to order a pick-up date at 609-989-3175. There is a limit of 5 bulk furniture items per appointment.
